Review of Optimism retro funding round 1
RetroDAO aims to retrospectively evaluate and distribute rewards to projects that have provided value as Public Goods. The specific principles are outlined below, but it is the role of badge holders to determine which projects receive funding. All processes are transparent, so there is little room for misconduct. https://gyazo.com/0833e5c9cedb1789a26a1e60aab51f8d Principles
1. RetoroDAO provides Pure public goods, which are initiatives that bring benefits to the ecosystem but cannot be provided through commercial means. When the funding pool is limited, priority should be given to projects that do not have a realistic business model. This concept is similar to Quasi-public goods as explained by shogochiai. When there is a larger funding pool available, support can also be provided to businesses that are already viable but are making efforts towards social initiatives. 2. Funding is provided retrospectively based on the value already generated. RetoroDAO determines funding based solely on the value created by projects. Predicting "future value" should be avoided as much as possible. 3. Currently, distribution is focused on Optimistic ecosystem-related public goods, but the goal is to expand as the funding pool grows. While the current focus is on Optimistic-related projects, future funding will also support humanity's peace, scientific progress, and general welfare. 4. Funding can also be provided to projects that have been previously accepted or rejected. (Translated: "Re-accepting projects that have been previously accepted" is referred to as Top-up funding). If a project that has been accepted and received funding continues to provide value, its recent value creation since the last funding round will be evaluated. If the funding pool increases, additional funding or re-evaluation of previously rejected projects will be considered. 5. Voting should be based solely on conscience, and should not involve acts that may affect one's own future. Voters should only consider whether a project is creating value. Making promises related to voting is not allowed.
6. Prohibition of self-dealing and conflicts of interest. Insider trading is not allowed.
Process of experimentation
- Candidate selection:
- 10/4: Start of candidate recruitment, anyone can recommend a project.
- 10/20: End of candidate recruitment, recommendation period closes.
- Badge holder voting (10/23~11/1):
- 10/23: Voting begins, each badge holder casts their vote for the projects that have made it to the final selection.
- 11/1: Voting ends.
- Projects will be rewarded in proportion to the votes received.
